Gears 5 Matchmaking uses TrueMatch: an all-new system for Gears 5 that uses machine learning to match you based on three parameters – time, latency and Skill Rating. TrueMatch dynamically adjusts based on your region and available players per playlist to give you the best balance of all three factors.
For the best matchmaking experience, we recommend the following:
- Have a consistent connection speed of at least 500KB/s for online functionality. For optimal performance, we recommend a consistent download speed of at least 2Mb/s.
- Have Open NAT by opening the ports recommended for Xbox Live usage. A full list can be found here.
- Where possible, connect to the internet via Ethernet cable for the most stable experience. If Wifi is the only option, ensure that your signal quality strength is at maximum.
- If you are experiencing problems, start by disabling any other internet traffic on your network. Other traffic (ie. watching a streaming platform) on your network may cause packet loss, which will impact your online experience.
To diagnose any issues, use an online speed-test (such as SpeedTest.net) to test your connection speed, flag any packet loss on your connection, or identify a variable ping.
